Crarae Garden. This exotic splash of wilderness is a Himalayan-style glen, set in the gentle hills of Argyll. The sparkling  waters of the Crarae Burn form the centrepiece for a woody paradise of rocky gorges, wooden bridges and thickets of  maple, birch and evergreens, blending with sprays of flowers.

 We visit the neo-gothic Mount Stuart House and Gardens, which are one of the most technologically advanced houses of its age, set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens, woodland and coast. We enjoy a scenic tour of the Isle of Bute before we arrive back in Rothesay to spend the rest of the afternoon exploring at leisure.

 We take a ferry from Rhubodach to Colintraive from where we travel along the shores of the tranquil Loch Fyne to the ancestral seat of the chiefs of Clan Campbell, Inveraray Castle & Gardens, where we enjoy a guided tour around one of  Scotland’s finest stately homes. 

 We journey to the mainland from Rothesay to Wemyss Bay by ferry from where we take a brief pause in the seaside  holiday town of Largs, famous for Nardini’s Ice Cream Parlour. Why not give yourself a treat.

 We head to Glasgow for a visit  to Mackintosh at the Willow for an afternoon tea and guided tour of the tea rooms which were opened by Miss Cranston and designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1903.

 Wemyss Bay is the gate way to the Inner Hebridies . The railway station is stunning and well worth a visit, it also has a café. At the top of the ferry slip is the Bobby Statue which represents when this was a main holiday destination for families. Next to the railway station is the local War Memorial showing Wemyss Bay losses during the World Wars.

 The Burrell Colletion houses the art collection of Sir William Burrell and Constance, Lady Burrell. The museum opened in 1983 and reopened on 29 March 2022 following a major refurbishment.
